Correspondence will be the first issue of Performance Research, Vol. 9, 2004, which explores a theme of transaction, transmission and exchange – between performance and its sites and contexts, between performance and its histories, between performance and its agencies in four related issues: Correspondence, On the Page, Generations and On Shame. Correspondence is an issue in which we are inviting writers and artists to contribute ‘correspondence’ with artists living and dead. It might be taken to imply channels and forms of communication – both live and written – but also the correspondences and associations between kinds of work, eras, experiences and lives. It might include reference to the clairvoyant, the uncanny, the coincidental, to parallel lives, or parallel circumstances.
