What accounts for theatre’s ongoing fascination with narrative?<\/p>\n

What is the relationship between narrative and contemporary performance?<\/p>\n

Through discussion and analysis of various approaches to contemporary performance practice, Performing Narrative offers an intriguing investigation of some of the complexities of working with narrative in a poststructuralist, post-dramatic context. Identifying some of the challenges of working with traditional narrative structures, the collection also draws attention to our innate need to use stories and performance as a means of locating ourselves – artistically, historically, politically and socially.<\/p>\n

David Shirley is a Principal Lecturer in the Manchester School of Theatre and Jane Turner is a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Contemporary Arts, both at Manchester Metropolitan University.<\/p>\n\n\n
